<div itemprop="description">TOM, Eugene Gin Min. <br />After having survived 6 strokes and a lengthy illness, passed away peacefully at Montreal General Hospital, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the age of 79 years. <br /> <br />Having immigrated from Toi San county Fu Cheung village in China around 1950 to settle and be reunited in Quebec City with his father Wing Goon HUM, Gin Min was a hard- working and skilled chef of authentic Chinese cuisine such as home-made tofu and dim-sum, whose Quebec City restaurants were often frequented by visiting Chinese dignitaries, and local chefs of French cuisine. <br /> <br />Over the years, besides raising his family of 4 children, Gin-min was involved in the local Chinese community associations in Quebec City and Montreal, helping newcomers and immigrant families integrate into Quebec society. <br /> <br />Gin Min's love of travel and exploration were often demonstrated in his lengthy walkabouts and evidenced with film and photo. He could often be found in his 'den' working on his projector or wandering the neighbourhood making friends and charming people with his cheery disposition and happy smile. <br /> <br />He leaves to mourn his wife Yee Kuen HUI, his 2 sons Walter Chi Yan TOM (wife Susanna ORESKOVIC-children Terra, Celestia and Rio), Warren Chi Keen TOM (wife Karen BLUNDEN &ndash;children Ethan, Malcolm, Erika and Allison), his 2 daughters Caroline TOM, Synthia TOM (husband Sam DURANT), his brother Buck TOM (wife Maria &ndash; children Kimberly and David), his cousin Timothy CHAN and family, the TOM Family Associations, and many other relatives and friends. <br /> <br />The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Neurological Surgery Patient Care Unit of Montreal General Hospital.
