Michael John Rider, age 59 years, passed away in Largo, Florida on January 5th, 2019.

Mike was born on July 7, 1959 in Dorval, QC to parents Perciville (Frank) Rider (1920-2011) and Margaret Mary (MacNaughton) Rider (1922-2010). Mike was the youngest of three siblings to sister Shirley (1955-1973) and brother Jim (1948-2018). He spent his early years making memories in Dorval and Lac-Mégantic, QC (Berry Brow Farm) and often took to the skies to see much of Canada via his father’s work with the airlines. Mike graduated from Dorval High School in 1976 and finished a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia in 1981. He worked as a data research manager for the Globe and Mail and National Enquirer before realizing his dream of living in warmer climes in Florida. There he found a new calling as an owner and operator of a Hearing Center. Mike had many touching stories of bringing back hearing to individuals from his community and took pride in his ability to help people. While Mike embraced his new life along the Gulf of Mexico, he continued to stay in touch with friends through frequent meet ups in Las Vegas, and was always present at family celebrations. Mike will be missed by many friends including those from the Dorval Minor hockey, Youngtimers teams, Dorval High School, John Abbott College, and Concordia University.

Mike will take his final resting site along side his sister and parents at the family plot at the Rideau Memorial Gardens. Mike is survived by his three nephews David, Danny, and Dennis and will be missed by many across the Rider Family Tree. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home Chapel on February 9th at 11:15am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Hearing Society (www.chs.ca) or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (http://cnib.ca) in Mike’s memory.
